Kew's old restaurant, “Capfee Mamma” may lose his license this evening after allegedly employing an illegal employee. The restaurant has been open in Richmond for 36 years.
On 9 September, an Albanian citizen was found in the restaurant by immigration officials who said he worked in Great Britain without a valid visa. As a result, the employee has been arrested and will now undergo deportation.
Meanwhile, the owner of the restaurant has been sent a release by Civil Punishment for employing an illegal employee who holds a maximum fine of 20,000 pounds.
Regarding this event, a subcommittee at the Richmond Council will decide tonight whether to change the terms of the license or not to choose to do anything.
To protect the owner, Jose Mendez and his staff, a local resident wrote to the Council: “They are a firm, stable and pleasant group”. He also describes the restaurant as a “social institution”.
“The morning of a recent Saturday, without any hesitation and certainly without any obligation, he stopped his car and took me along with my sister. Jose is always willing to help”, the resident added.
