According to America's “Zer”, the US proposes the creation of a permanent American military presence in Southeast Europe, protecting the historical “resolution” with Serbia and promoting the reputation of the United States as a true mediator, reports “b92”, Periscopi broadcast.
Nongovernmental Organisation Vice President Damon Wilson for “The Voice of America” says the Atlantic Council is committed to improving the historic process of reconciliation with Serbia and will be a real mediator in the progress of a political front, when it comes to dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, or offering assistance to Greece and Macedonia.
According to the “Office of America” statement that Serbia is balancing between the EU and Russia, where a State Department official recently advised Belgrade not to sit on two chairs, Wilson says:
“has a great chance for Serbia under the leadership of Vuciqi and the United States under this administration to try to bring a historic reconciliation between the two countries that recognises that there are many newer areas in which we can co-operate and that, of course, in polls and other sources, the electorate in Serbia realises the future is in Europe”.
“These are difficult decisions for President Vuciq and the Serbian government, but they clearly showed interest and will,” he said.
Asked whether he supports Pristina's request for the United States to engage directly in negotiations with Belgrade, he says:
I think it makes sense for the United States to be part of this process, of course, primarily, both sides should lead it. The European Union will continue to play a valuable role as mediator, but Americans should not sit out. This cry will help dialogue lead to a constructive outcome. ”
Wilson said the United States needed a more active role in the region because, he warned, if Washington is no longer committed, it jeopardises the outbreak of crisis in the Balkans. /Periscopi/
