The first 6.2-magnitude quake has hit the country on Friday, followed by a second quake of 5.8 magnitude on Saturday, the country's geophysic institute reported.
The center of the first quake was about 20 miles [20 km] south of the city of Guayaquil, and the second struck closer south to Balao at a depth of just eight miles [8 km], reports the REL.
The quake caused panic after residents fled their homes on the streets and hospitals were evacuated.
Teachings were canceled in many schools.
In 2016, a quake of 7.8 had left 671 people dead while leaving thousands more injured.
