The Justice Ministry, Abelard Tahiri, two months after taking office, has unveiled the Ministry of Justice's Strategic Development Plan for the period 2018-2021 to reporters today.
Tahiri said that this plan, above all, aims to serve to increase transparency in terms of the ministry's work, so that the media, civil society and especially Kosovo citizens can understand the reforms the ministry is undertaking.
He said this plan also reflects his full willingness to live up to a work plan that, unlike the complete institutional practice, and that will serve as a document on which the Ministry wants to be based to meet these objectives and its initial measures in the field of justice.
On the other hand, Tahiri stressed that in the focus of the Development Plan, close co-operation and co-ordination with friendly states and all international institutions and mechanisms in the works of consolidating the justice system in the country.
Tahiri, who is at the same time the second justice minister to come up with the Strategic Development Plan, stressed that the five main strategic objectives include: improving legal and institutional infrastructure; advancing assistance and judicial co-operation; more efficient management of the system of executing criminal sanctions; strengthening legal medicine capacities and investigating war crimes; and developing professional capacities for efficient in the field of justice.
The minister said his priority includes: sweeping review of the justice system; rule of law; uncompetitive fight against corruption and organised crime; policies and legislation that enable acceleration of reforms and the process of integration of Kosovo into the European Union; realisation of obligations stemming from the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and the European Agency of Reforms; increasing citizens' confidence in the justice system as the fundamental precondition for the country's comprehensive development; respect of human rights, democratic governance, judicial security and equal access to justice.
