At least five people have lost their lives in Greece as a result of a wave of bad weather, so-called Eurydiki, which is prevalent in most of the country.
All the victims have been residents of the Mandra municipality in western Athens, where dozens of homes have been flooded by kidnapped waters. According to local bodies, some are considered missing, while two other elderly women who were rescued at the last minute have been sent to the hospital with hypothermia.
Greek media broadcast images of a major catastrophe in the Nea Perama and Megara areas near the Greek capital.
Because of heavy rainfall, many homes have been flooded, while dozens of cars have been blocked in the surrounding streets. The fire service has responded to more than 360 calls for house support and flooded shops.
There were problems in the flow of vehicles on Athens-Corinth National Road. Local organs have ordered that schools not be opened throughout the western area of Athens Prefecture.
Since yesterday, Simi's island in the southeastern Aegean is also in a state of emergency, as rainfall has caused great flooding and huge damage.
Tens of cars have been completed at sea by kidnapped waters, homes and shops flooded, electricity and water supplies cut off. In aid of the residents, army forces and fire departments have gone.
The Sinoptic National Service has warned, apart from others, of a possible Cyclone in the Corfu area during Friday.
