EU urges reconciliation in Balkans following judicial decision on Ratko Mladic

The European Union today has called on Balkan countries for “honoured victims” of war crimes working in reconciliation, as former Bosnian Serb military commander Ratko Mladic has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Furthermore, the EU statement notes that the International Tribunal for War Crimes for the former Yugoslavia's decision, proclaimed today, “affects some of the darkest and most tragic events in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Western Balkans, then in Europe's current history, including the genocide at Srebrenica”.
The European Union believes that all countries in the region are committed and set to work towards reconciliation, regional co-operation and good neighbourly relations”, said the European Union statement and added that “we expect all political leaders in the region to honour the victims by promoting and respecting these commitments”
