US and EU call for launching arrest of “largeweight”

US Ambassador to Albania Donald Lu welcomed the operation “Law Force” presented by the Interior Ministry and for the first time decided on when results from the operation are expected. Let's talk in action, not word. We expect this aggressive plan of the Government of Albania to end with the arrest and prosecution of several large fish early next year and this success to continue with the SPAK and BKH”, Ambassador Donald Lu said.

That is what international partners expect, Lu said, as well as Albanian citizens. Lou appreciated the plan.

You have an expression on the sunflower as early as morning. We like that this action plan clearly and certainly acknowledges that Albanian organised crime is a serious problem and a threat to national security. So far criminal justice bodies have failed criminal groups”, he followed, Tch reports.

The ambassador said Albania has a problem with the links of criminal groups to politicians and demanded that this not be denied.

If you deny this, consider the cases of Arben Ndoka, Mark Frockk, Elvis Rosh and Gentian Mahmutaj. The US will engage strongly against organised crime despite links it may have with politicians, businessmen, judges and prosecutors”, he said.

And returning to popular expressions, the U.S. top diplomat said it's time to eat the big fish “.

You say the big fish eats the little one. For once in Albania let's eat the big fish”, he said.

Even European Union Ambassador to Albania Romana Vlahti said the international community expects concrete results.

Albanian citizens are sick of it. They no longer hold the arrogance of corrupts and criminal interests. There should be no more invulnerables who manage to buy justice”, she said.

Meanwhile, Minister Fatmir Xhafaj said the plan and the establishment of the task force is a new and determined approach of the government for a frontal fight against crime structures.

The “is a new route for the law enforcement institutions. We wage multiple war on crime structures. The government has all the will and mechanisms for this war. Establishing special force is a significant indication of taking legal and political responsibility from this government”, Xhafaj said.

The minister said that despite the progress made, we are far from the standard of a society where law and justice rule.

The “The power of the Law” will have in composition a central task force that will guide regional forces to crack down on crime.

Work has begun with analyzing the typology of criminal groups.

“From the scan of criminal groups it turns out that 53 percent deal with cultivation and narcotics trafficking, 11 percent with illegal trafficking, 18 percent with serious crimes, such as hostage killings and 18 percent economic crime”, says Idajet Faskaj, Director of the Department Against Organised Crime in State Police.

The priority goal is to hit financial resources, and an important role at this point is to receive the financial analysis unit, for which the Ministry of Finance will provide support.

“Organised crime cannot and will soon have no future in Albania. We are determined to do everything possible to destroy criminal networks, their infrastructure, to destroy their economic power”, Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj said.

Xhafaj also responded to political charges.

“We are willing to work with anyone who finds the fight against organised crime not as a matter of political attitudes and preferences, nor as a matter of leadership for power, but as a vital issue, for the present and for the European future of the country”, he said.
