Charles Manson, the infamous American cult leader who has orchestrated the killing of seven people by his supporters, died in prison after suffering some 50 years.
He died late last night of natural death at a California hospital at 83 years of age, prison officials said.
The Manson family, as his supporters were called, murdered Hollywood's pregnant actress Sharon Tate, a director's wife, Roman Pollanski, and 6 others in Los Angeles in 1969.
Prosecutors have argued that the goal was for these murders to blame American niggers, hoping it would trigger racial war in the United States.
Describing himself as the restoration of Jesus Christ, Manson had used combinations of drugs and his charisma to bring members of the cult under his control.
Manson didn't kill anyone, but he ordered his supporters to do the killing.
However, he was charged with murder, and in 1971 he was sentenced to death.
However, the death penalty had been canceled in California before the Manson verdict was pronounced, so he was sentenced to life in prison.
During the trial against him, Manson has declared himself innocent and that society itself is guilty.
