Francisco Bernab, the Spanish representative in the Murcia region, says 461 immigrants have arrived at the southern port of Carthage on Saturday, after being rescued from 44 different ships.
Ships to Spain reportedly left Algeria.
The Red Cross was placed at the port to offer aid to immigrants.
And 40 immigrants were caught on two ships in the Strait of Gibraltar.
Bernab called the influx of migrants “a co-ordinated and unacceptable attack on the Serbian borders”.
