The UN Security Council is expected to vote later today on whether to continue the mandate of the international investigation of chemical weapons attacks in Syria.
However, the fate of this investigation, known as the Joint Detective Mechanism (JIM), remains unclear, as Russia has been threatened to use veto rights because of what Moscow claims is a prejudiced investigation into the sarin gas attack in April of this year.
This investigation presents a joint effort by the United Nations and the Organisation for the Prevention of Chemical Armation (OPCW).
The investigation mandate will pass on November 18th, unless it extends.
