Kosovo President Hashim Thaci today has threatened the European Union (BE) for its enlargement policies.
In a writing to the panevropain portal “EuroActiv”, Thaci wrote that the European Commission's relationship with the Western Balkans and enlargement policy has been complicated.
Thaci wrote in this writing that EU policies had devastating effects.
“While all are familiar with the policy that an expansion by 2019 was difficult to realise, the EU's clear policy had devastating effects in the region in terms of minimising reform efforts”, Thaci wrote.
However, this is not the first time the country's president is threatening the European Union. Thaci has threatened the EU at least four times.
In 2015 Thaci was a minister of foreign affairs who had led serious accusations against the European Union over the issue of visa liberalisation for Kosovars.
“While we are grateful to the EU for signing SAA, I express deep disappointment with the EU's meaningless delays for visa liberalisation. This delay by the EU for visa liberalisation for Kosovo is considered a serious provocation and a result of the inability and lack of political will of leadership in Brussels. For me, it's stupid of the EU to keep Kosovars isolated. These absurd and deliberate delays, not only promote extremism in the country, but also increase frustration among Kosovo citizens”, Thaci wrote.
And after receiving President Thaci's post, he failed to comply with the EU condition that the demarcation for visa liberalisation be voted.
Thaci had said that even EU countries do not have the border issue adjusted.
“Although I do not agree with the EU condition that the demarcation for visa liberalisation be voted, because even EU countries have not yet adjusted the border issue, but this condition has been set, and I believe that we must fulfil it so that Kosovo citizens can move freely”, Thaci wrote in 2016.
And President Thaci's recent threat to the European Union comes after what Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama had done.
Edi Rama had said Albania's union with Kosovo cannot be ruled out if the prospect for Balkan membership in the EU fades.
E Thaci had strengthened Rama's threat, saying the European Union is without vision and leadership.
The European Union, currently neither in relation to Kosovo nor to the Western Balkans, has neither vision nor leadership for integration or enlargement with the involvement of Western Balkan countries”, Thaci had said.
The latest condition for visa liberalisation for Kosovars, the European Union has set the issue of completing demarcation with Montenegro. /Insider
