At the end of 2016, President Hashim Thaci had started meetings with political parties for electoral reform that were meant to be completed soon, and the proposals went ahead of the Parliament, but everything was on hold.
The opposition had never accepted the president's initiative by boycotting it, while the current opposition in the Kosovo Assembly warns that this issue will be a priority in this Parliament legislature, KTV reports.
Driton Selmanaj, LDK deputy, says it is an immediate need for Kosovo to launch a real electoral reform.
He says to feel bad at bringing the political class to this process that had begun in 2010.
Selmanaj has also talked about the Parliament regulations that he said for years he has been walking into the Assembly offices.
He said it was blocked by persons within the leadership of the assembly for years, for fear of losing power.
Albulen Haxhiu chairman of the Commission for Legislation says the commission had been working for years on the draft of the assembly's regulation, but has had dissatisfaction with groups or individuals within the republic's assembly.
It says that with the new regulation the focus should be set to empower the parliamentary republic.
Recalls the violation that according to her, made president on the day the new Haradinaj government was elected, where Wessel had sought pause at the time when they were not allowed.
The Kosovo Assembly in its sixth legislature continues to function with a 2010 regulation, though each legislature would have to adopt the new Assembly regulation.
