In an interview given for public television, Thaci said the topic of the meeting was also the formation of the military, which, according to him, would happen this year.
Thaci also said there were three issues discussed with the US Vice President Pence.
The first issue, according to Thaci, is the continuation of dialogue on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia in this new phase to complete this process with a historic agreement on normalisation and reconciliation with the leading role of the European Union.
The time has come for the United States of America to eventually evolve directly into Kosovo dialogue Serbia. Vice President Pence has confirmed his commitment and his involvement in the White House in this important process, which gives us more security”, he said.
The president said that the direct US involvement in the dialogue process would give a new meaning, give a new dynamic and security for the final success of this new circumstance.
“Zv. President Pence, once again, has reconfirmed the US stance, that Kosovo as a sovereign country has the right to establish the Armed Forces, has also confirmed that the New Kosovo Force will be a modern force of NATO and multiethnic standards. All obligations and responsibilities will be carried out, and within the year the Kosovo Armed Forces” will be established, Thaci added.
He said the administration of the United States of America wants Kosovo to close the issue of demarcation with Montenegro as soon as possible, agreements that have now been signed between the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo and Montenegro and ratified by Montenegro.
For the United States this issue is closed and they ask us, from the Kosovo Parliament, to close it as soon as we can move towards European progress, in particular towards visa liberalisation”, Thaci stressed.
