The clashes began in late Friday hours and continued until 2:30 p.m.
Anarchists attacked Molotov bombs, stones of police patrols in the area around party offices PASOK, downtown Athens.
Two police officers reportedly were injured and taken to the hospital.
Many of the cars parked in the area of incidents have suffered considerable damage.
For several hours the circulation of vehicles on Patision Street, the main road connecting the center with the northeastern areas of the capital, was cut off.
Police have arrested three people, aged 20, 21 and 26.
The incident was marked just two days after the attack on the Pefki police station in Athens, which sparked controversy between the opposition and the government.
The largest opposition New Democracy party has called for the prime minister's intervention, accusing him of not allowing police to do their job to ensure safety for citizens.
The prime minister's political opponents say anarchist groups that attack police or assault state institutions by causing material damage are tolerated for ideological reasons by the government.
“Law implementation and citizens' security are an agenda without ideology. There can be no security freedom”, opposition chief Mitsotakis said, arguing the request for interference.
