The story of Omayra Sanchez may seem old because it dates back 30 years ago, but in reality, the lesson it teaches is universal, eternal - evidence that many times the power of love exceeds even death.

On November 13, 1985, the volcano “Nevado del Ruiz” in Colombia has a violent explosion, considered one of the most destructive in the twentieth century for the number of victims (25 000).

Among the unfortunates there was Omaira Sanchez: a 13 - year - old man trapped by mud.

On the night of the explosion, the girl tries to escape with her family, but as they leave, Omaha's grandmother falls into an aquifer.
With great courage, Omaha is released into the water supply to save Grandma. The little girl, however, could not save her grandmother's life because the mud makes her crawl a few feet away.

Omaha is found with her feet trapped between waste and concrete debris. Her condition is dramatic: He's got his whole body immersed and only his head out of the water.

When rescuers arrive at the site, they cannot interfere to save her because her body did not come out of the garbage. The only possible way to save her is to cut her legs, but surgeons couldn't get to the place where you are the little girl and there are no doctors in the area, so it's impossible to think of a medical operation.

However, volunteers, even though they do not have adequate means for extraction, do not give up and seek a solution in every way.

According to one journalist present, Cristina Echandia, Omaha sings songs he enjoys, prays, and speaks normally of himself, friends, school, and grandmother. She also has words of comfort for those who are concerned about her imminent destiny, which was almost determined.

She spends three nights in that state, and just the third night, the girl starts hallucinating, saying she doesn't want to be late for school, so they had to get her out soon. At one point, he wants to be left alone because he wants to rest.

Just when she wants to rest, after 60 hours, the baby's heart stops beating out hypothermia.

The whole world is impressed by the courage and dignity of the 13-year-old who faces death.

Shortly before his death, Frank Fournier takes a picture of the eyes of this extraordinary girl. It is one of the most critical photos because the photograph was called heartless even though it won the Pulitzer Award in 1985. This picture and the description was taken from photographs that are the Beroea History.
