The Serbian government and presidency have warned of forming joint groups to prepare for the new phase of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Meanwhile, senior Kosovo officials have warned of reaching a final agreement with Serbia, but even after all those rounds of talks, they have not yet taken a step towards providing a platform or co-ordinating positions with other political forces in the country.
In its response, the Movement for the Union has said it is clear that the Government of Kosovo has the legitimacy gained through a resolution approved by the Kosovo Assembly to hold talks with Serbia. Unfortunately, in this resolution, even after the permanent insistence by the Union Movement deputies in the Kosovo Assembly, no government's obligation to draft a joint platform for talks with Serbia was included.
Yet, given the different attitudes regarding this process from the majority of the opposition, and especially considering that we are dealing with a very important issue of national interest, weighing even for future generations, the Movement for the Union considers necessary, that even after all these developments, the Kosovo side must change its approach before this new phase of negotiations. ”
The “Movement for the Union is committed to its very early demand for the start of co-operation between the Kosovo Albanian political forces over the process, with the goal of reaching a political consensus, which would result in a common platform for talks with Serbia. We consider that at the centre of this platform there should be fundamental issues that have remained unresolved in relation to Serbia: the three Serb-run municipalities in the country's north and three Albanian-run municipalities in eastern Kosovo. As a principle of solving problems, however, the reciprocity is established. All other issues are dependent on those above mentioned and it is unnecessary to be part of the political dialogue with Serbia”, said in response.
