Independent Media Commission Chairman Adnan Merovci today has said that for years RTK has failed to pay taxes at the KKP.
This statement, Merovci said before Kosovo Assembly deputies, where he had gone to present the KPM's report of work for 2016.
According to Merovci RTK for years has failed to pay taxes.
“We as regulator in relation to RTK are in a low position because RTK is of the Parliament. RTK has been paying taxes for years. The tax issue I think has to be removed, but since it's legal, then it's being uneven to others, because RTK's paying the rest is currently”, Merovci said.
MPs have asked the chairman of this commission to be given penalties for televisions that commit violations of the law and not to be limited to remarks. According to Merovci, the occasional mistakes or irregularities go unnoticed.
In cases where we assess a mistake or irregularities and it's the Ad-Hoc case, we send a warning. We have the practice that we don't go with fines immediately, but there may be cases of great error that we condemn, but first we send a warning”, said KPM chairman Adnan Merovci, among other things.
Parliamentary Commission for Media Chairman Nat Hasani raised as issue the fact that citizens pay for RTK and they have no access.
As far as KPM's report of work for 2016, Vetevendosje MP Shqipe Pantina described it as unquilative.
We demand that you in the report give recommendations to the MPs so that we can address those problems and those recommendations”, the Pantina MP said.
While PDK deputy Xhevahire Izmaku raised journalists' payment as a matter.
I'm worried about paying journalists. Journalists deal with all the problems, but they need another salary. We meet and see them, there are journalists who had changed their profession for a better salary. There are journalists who, by 3-4 months, don't get salaries”, she said, asking the KKPM to care about knowing through Kosovo media whether they have registered employees, whether they've received salaries and so on.
As for copyright, which was raised as a case, Merovci said it is the work of the Court, not the media regulator.
The Commission for Public Administration, Local Governance and Media today has also hosted the RTK Board and the Independent Council for Civil Service.
