Ivanov Shows What He Expects of Elections in Macedonia

President Ivanov, who was accompanied by his wife and son, stressed that he hopes such elections as all previous ones show maturity to citizens. “Today, when the local government is elected, citizens can choose who at the time of the election campaigns have offered to improve the conditions for their lives, because real life is always local, and citizens expect those who will choose to improve the quality of their lives”, Ivanov said.

At 7: 00 today, polling stations opened with which the sixth local elections in Macedonia began. The vote's right by 7:00 p.m. will be able to exploit 1,814.644 electors who will be able to vote for 260 mayoral candidates, as well as 6,627 municipal council candidates from a total of 372 lists.

The first round of the sixth local elections in Macedonia will take place at 3,480 seats in 80 municipalities and the City of Skopje, while the second round is scheduled two weeks later, on 29 October.

The election campaign, which lasted 21 days, began on 25 September and ended on 13 October at midnight. Under Macedonia's election legislation, the right to vote during yesterday exploited the sick, the powerless, the displaced, as well as the prisoners in punitive institutions.

For monitoring these elections, the State Election Commission (KSHZ) has accredited 5,011 local observers, 373 foreign observers, 294 violators and 6 foreign journalists. Earlier, the KSHZ announced that turnout by 10:00, according to data received by municipal commissions, in Macedonia's territory was 8.91 percent.

Otherwise, these are the sixth local elections in Macedonia, through which the new local government will be elected for the next four years. The last local elections in the country were held in 2013.
