Rochus Misch was Hitler's personal bodyguard, he was the first man to see the lifeless body of the Nazi dictator.
In his autobiography, Mitch writes that the dictator told him shortly before he killed himself because he wanted his body burned.
Hitler was in the bunker on April 30th 1945, when General Keitel gave him the message that the army failed to break the Soviet siege in Berlin and that the end of World War II was inevitable.
Hitler had confessed to him that he did not want his body publicly abused, as he had done with Mussolini, and that he wanted his corpse to be burned.
The bodyguard relates the moment when he found the dictator's lifeless body:
My eyes first went to Eva, she was lying next to him, her shoes were under the couch, beside her. Then I saw Hitler, his eyes were open and red.
Misch was captured by the Soviet Red Army and imprisoned in labor camps for eight years but was able to escape.
