In Germany a school bears the name of an Albanian, learn why

By “Albania in Berlin”, politicologist, journalist and prominent Albanian activist from Berlin, Vjollca Hajdari, has launched an initiative to commemorate this school and its swimmers, three years after receiving that name. The Vjolca initiative, as it claims, is supported by RV and the Institute for Eastern and Southeast Europe.

When the German school in Berlin took the historic step three years ago and established the name of Albanian Refik Veselin, except that it conveyed the message of peace from Berlin and Germany, it honored with this act all the Albanian people. Refiq Wessel, now known as a hero, had been rescued along with his family of two Jewish families during World War II in Albania, writes Vjollca Hajdari at an invitation to participate in marking the anniversary of this school.

The then 17-year-old “has been honoured by Israel as the first Albanian under the title “Law Among People” along with his family. This title has been shared by 69 Albanians from 23,788 “Right” worldwide. To remember his monumental work, I've turned to the school “Refix Veselin” to celebrate this year jointly. In this case, we will once again reveal the pages of history, reflecting on the dark side of the war but also on the bright part of a memorable friendship.

The Albanian people have historically testified to the generous and hospitable spirit, to the EUSA as a code of honour, remains as one of the brightest attributes, indiscriminately religious faith”, said the following at the invitation.

The cultural-artistic programme will include the Albanian dance group “Albunivers”, the school theatre group “Refik Veselin” and school students with some musical points. One word the school principal will hold, Dr. Ulrike Becker.
