EU badly hits Catalonia

European leaders have dismissed the possibility that the EU will mediate in the dispute between Spain and Catalonia. They said this after the Spanish government announced it is looking into taking steps towards removing autonomy for Catalonia.
Council of Europe President Donald Tusk said in the margin of the EU summit in Brussels that there is no room for any kind of mediation or initiative, or international shares”.
Tusk said the situation in Spain is disturbing, but the Catalonia crisis is not on the summit agenda in Brussels.
Spain insists that this issue be not discussed at the summit.
European Parliament President Antonio Tayan said no one in the European Union would recognise Catalonia as a sovereign state if they declare independence from Spain.
