Catalonia has voted overwhelmingly for independence from Spain, with about 90 per cent of the over two million votes counted, the regional government has said “Po”.
By Foreign mediaTelegraphed, Barcelona says around 2.26 million people have voted in the banned referendum despite the Civil Guard's violent efforts to stop them.
This represents a attendance of about 42.3 percent of the 5.34 million electorate in Catalonia.
As it goes on, at least 844 people were injured on the day of violence, where police in the riot march fired rubber bullets in the crowd and hit people who tried to cast their votes.
The Spanish government has said the referendum was illegal, and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy told reporters that “did not have an independence referendum today”.
He claimed that the Catalan people have been deceived into participating in an illegal vote, accusing the regional government of using the referendum as a strategy against legal and democratic harmony and it was a “road that leads nowhere”. /Telegraphy/
