The State Commission for Marking and Maintaining the State Border has received additional competencies and is examining existing documents and facts about the demarcation of the border line between Kosovo and Montenegro.

Speeding Bulqi, the head of the state Commission, told Radio Free Europe that the Commission has started work and will conduct an analysis of the Commission's preliminary report. He said that from the beginning irregularities have been observed that the former State Commission for Marking and Maintaining State Borders has made.

“are a series of irregularities, and from what we have managed to see from the beginning, there is an overcoming of that Commission's competencies. That Commission has not had the right to make demitation (decision of the border) of Kosovo and Montenegro, for the fact that there has been a demitated border since 1946”, Bulqi said.

According to him, the Commission's competence has only been to find the border points where the border line has passed.

Bulliqi said the tests will also take place in terms of international law, graphic, natural and geodesian evidence.

When all these things are analysed, surely we will need to make some direct field visits”, Bulqi stressed.

Meanwhile, Ali Lajci, deputy of Kosovo's Parliament by the Vetevendosje Movement, said that the State Commission for Marking and Maintaining the State Border is expected to do fair work, as according to him, the demarcation with Montenegro is an issue that needs to be resolved.

“should go to the ground and get all analysis. It should be seen of all the factors that lead to a solution and the comprehensive arguments that are abundant, but that should be taken away by those that resell the Chuckor points, Tower, Mokna”, Lajci said.

Ramiz Dresaj, residents of Rugova and Peja, who have land near the border line, told Radio Free Europe that Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has done well to appoint a new Commission on the Demarcing issue.

Dressie said he'll trust the new Commission's finders in case they get out on the ground.

“We hope this Commission will succeed. The new Commission needs to be put on the ground, since the previous Commission has made assessments from the table with the tahmin. It needs to be released on all sides, in the mountains, on foot, in the villages and it has to show, so even though there are maps, it has to show where the Mejat (border points) was”, Dresaj said.

Meanwhile, according to the chairman of the new state commission, Bullici's acceleration in this re-evaluation process has also been invited by international representatives and all those interested in helping unblock the situation. However, Bulliqi said the Commission is accountable to those who formed it.

We are not the Commission that we are formed by international factors, but we are the Commission that has created our institutions and we are responsible to our institutions. Of course, we're willing and open with all relevant factors to sit down and discuss the problem openly. Let's discuss where the concessions are, where the problems and defects of the entire process are. But we are the Commission that we are formed on the basis of legal regulations that are in force of”, Bulqi said.

The State Commission for State Border Marking and Maintaining, has so far held several working meetings, in which it has analysed part of the former State Commission's labour materials for State Marking and Maintaining State Borders.

The commission has concluded that there is also a need for a number considered number of additional materials, which will be requested in writing at some respective institutions.

Opposition MPs from the past legislature have said that with the 2015 Agreement for marking the border line with Montenegro, Kosovo has lost over 8 thousand hectares of territory. Part of the opposition then was incumbent Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, who is known for rejecting the version of the current demarcation agreement with Montenegro.

In an interview for Radio Free Europe, Haradinaj has said the results of the new Commission's work will be expected and then closed with a solution.

“Now we are in the process of finding the truth about Demarquement and only after we have a situation that will help us to open the subject, then we will address political partners in Kosovo, but also international partners”.
