Infantino reveals FIFA's plan: World can expand to 64 nationals

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has indicated that the world football government will consider extending the World Cup to 64 nationals for the 2030 edition.
The 2026 World Cup has developed for the first time with 48 teams, while Infantino said that after the end of this tour, discussions on further expansion will begin.
This is certainly an issue to be considered and discussed on relevant commissions after this, Kupe Worlde”, Infantino said of Swiss medium Bluewin
He stressed that each national should have the opportunity to dream of participation in the World Cup, adding that the inclusion of more countries would increase football motivation and development worldwide.
The 2030 World Cup will take place in six states and three continents -- Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay -- will expect a match, while the rest of the tour will be organised in Morocco, Portugal and Spain.
The idea for the expansion of the World to 64 nationals was first launched in 2025 by a delegation of South American countries, and is now expected to be officially reviewed by FIFA.
