(3 hours ago)The European Union has reacted after the recent decisions of Kosovo institutions through which the suspension of the Serbian community prosecutors' work contracts has been imposed, which had left the system since 2022.
The EU says that according to the Constitution, Kosovo is a multiethnic society that is governed by order and law and a justice system that should reflect ethnic diversity.
“The EU has consistently called for Kosovo to enable reintegration of Kosovo Serbs into the justice system in line with Kosovo's laws and Dialogue Agreements”, said in response.
The EU has stressed that it welcomes the withdrawal of resignations made by judges, prosecutors and support staff, and agrees that it is concerned by the KPK's decision to accept those resignations after they have resigned and also say they are also concerned by Albulen Haxhiu's decision as the president's late to decree the resignations.
“The EU welcomes the withdrawal, on 15 July 2026, of the resignations submitted by Kosovo Serb judges, prosecutors and staff. The EU is concerned by yesterday's decision by the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPK) to accept the resignations that had already withdrawn and the incumbent's decision to decree the resignations. This seems incompatible with the law, with the regular legal process and general requirements for rule of law in Kosovo”, it is said in communiqué.
The EU in the end says it calls on all relevant institutions to refrain from actions aimed at preventing the reintegration of Kosovo Serb judicial personnel.
