Over 80 thousand people sign a petition calling for repeat of World Cup finals

The Argentinian fan Gisela Sánchez started a petition on the Chang.org platform, asking for it. FIFA will order the repeat of the final, which Spain won thanks to Ferran Torres' goal in overtime. The petition has collected more than 80 thousand signatures.

In her request, Sánchez claims Slovenian referee Slavko Vinči has made a controversial and corrupt “presentation”, demanding that FIFA review some decisions made during the challenge. However, the petition is not accompanied by verifiable evidence of the accusations, except for some images spread on social networks, which the organiser claims show decisions in favor of Spain.

FIFA regulations predict a match can only be replayed in extraordinary cases, as serious violations of race rules, including activating an inappropriate player or intervention of governing institutions before formal confirmation of the outcome.

An online petition does not have legal or sports powers to change the outcome of a finished match.

Similar requests have appeared before. In 2022, after Argentina's World Cup triumph in Qatar, over 200,000 French fans signed a petition for the replay of the final, rejecting the decisions of Polish Judge Szymon Marcinika

However, there have been rare cases in football history when a match has been replayed. One of them was in 2006, when the World Qualifying Challenge between Uzbekistan and Bahrain was repeated because of an arbitrator's technical error, and not simply because of disappointments with decisions during the game. /Periscope/
