This Swiss canton bans teachers wearing headscarves at school

The road to the ban on headscarves for teachers in St. It's clear now. St. Gallen has overwhelmingly adopted a corresponding motion.
The government is now in charge of drafting a bill to enable implementation of this stance, broadcasts Albinfo. ch, Transaction Periscope.
In the summer of 2025, parents in Eschenbach protested the employment of a young teacher who wanted to wear headscarves during her teaching. The school eventually decided not to continue with its employment, writes Sda.ch.
Shortly after, individual members from all four political groups at the Cantonal Council filed a motion demanding clarification. The motion required that the maintenance of the “agreements or symbols religiously motivated by teachers” in public schools be banned at the Public Education Act.
The canton government supported the demand, but wanted to limit the ban in elementary schools, albinfo.ch conveys. On Wednesday morning, following a detailed debate, the council approved the motion by 70 votes to 46 against.
The government now must draft a change in the law. /Periscope
