The recognition of Kosovo by Greece is discussed in Washington, AARC holds meeting with Congresswoman Malliotakis

The Council for Albanian-American Relations (AARC) has held a meeting with the US Congresswoman of Greek descent, Nicole Malliotakis, where a host of issues related to the Western Balkans and the Albanian-American community are discussed.
The news has been made known by AARC President Martin Vulaj, who announced that emphasis has been placed on the importance of strengthening relations between Kosovo and Greece, as well as the need for deepening co-operation between the two countries, with the goal of achieving formal recognition of Kosovo by Greece.
“One of the main topics of discussion was strengthening relations between Greece and Kosovo and encouraging closer co-operation that could in the future lead towards the official recognition of Kosovo by Greece”, AARC's announcement reported.
Representatives of the organisation also raised concerns about the rights and status of Albanians in North Macedonia, underlining the importance of continued American engagement and monitoring implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement. The local student movement and its requirements for institutional accountability were discussed at the meeting.
According to the announcement, Congresswoman Malliotakis showed particular interest in regional developments, prompting questions about the most pro-American countries in the Balkans, Russian and Chinese influence, as well as the way Serbia exercises its influence in the region.
“We stressed that Kosovo remains one of the most pro-American societies in the world, while Albania and Albanian communities in northern Macedonia and Montenegro have consistently witnessed strong support for the United States and the transatlantic alliance”, it is further said in the statement.
AARC representatives also discussed Serbia's efforts to exercise political, economic, media and security influence in various Western Balkan countries, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and Kosovo.
The AARC delegation at this meeting was led by Chairman Eli Russia and included Deputy Chairman Tony Marke, Secretary Burim Rexaj, board members Agim Jusuf and Vehbi Bajrami, as well as other supporters of the organisation. / Periscope/
