KFOR Commander: Dezinformation and stimulating rhetoric have a direct impact on the security situation

KFOR commander in Kosovo, Major General Ozkan Ullutash, has declared that the overall security situation in Kosovo remains calm and that there are currently no indications of direct security threats, although he has warned that unresolved tensions, promotional rhetoric and deinformation continue to present challenges that require continued vigilance.
Ullutash said KFOR remains fully ready to respond to any possible deterioration of the situation, stressing that the mission NATO is equipped, trained and positioned to react quickly in case of need.
Speaking of the situation in the north, for Telegrafi, KFOR commander estimated that the situation is currently calm and that no incidents similar to those in 2023 have been recorded, but underlined that the mission is not lowering alert due to unresolved issues and the impact that may have irresponsible dezination and rhetoric on the ground.
“Currently, the security situation in northern Kosovo is also calm. We haven't seen similar security incidents since 2023. Following the unacceptable act of violence committed against KFOR peacekeepers and also peacekeepers in Zvecan and also Kosovo Police personnel in Banjsk. But as I have said before, there are unresolved issues, non-profit rhetoric occasionally, and also repeated dezination. All these combined aspects have a direct impact on the security situation. So we're not lowering our guard”.
He stressed that KFOR continues close co-ordination with security institutions in Kosovo, EULEX and relevant authorities in the region, while repeating that long-term stability in Kosovo cannot be achieved through military solutions, but through political dialogue for normalising relations between Pristina and Belgrade.
“actually, since my first term at KFOR helm, the overall security situation throughout Kosovo has not changed significantly. She's generally calm. There are no indications, pointing to security risks or direct threats to a safe and secure environment. By saying this, there are still a number of unresolved issues we need to consider. So we must be vigilant, basically. And that's what KFOR does every day, maintaining a visible and flexible presence on the ground through regular patrols, establishing observation points and commitments with representatives of all local communities to ensure the preservation of a safe and secure environment for all people living in Kosovo”. / Periscope/
