Jurgen Kupp sharply criticises the World Cup: Football is being held hostage, hydration pauses are “golden” for sponsors

Livepool's former coach, Jürgen Klopp, has sharply criticised the way modern football is being organised, especially targeting the “hydration pauses” during World Cup matches.
In a statement to German broadcaster ZDF, Klopp said football “is held hostage by directors closed to air conditioning offices”.
According to him, hydration pauses, presented as a measure for the well-being of players, actually do not serve that goal, but have become a tool linked to commercial interests.
“We are represented as a shield for the well-being of players, but in fact they are nothing but a golden sack built for sponsors”, Clopp said.
He added that during the matches, he noticed players standing still due to heat during these breaks, while the pace of the game, according to him, is detected by advertising.
Who does the World Cup really work for? For fans, players or advertisers?”, the former German coach further expressed himself.
Klopp's statements come at a moment when the debate over the impact of advertising and game interruptions on elite football is becoming stronger.
