It's getting warmer and it's not stopping: Facing Hot in five European Capitals

In recent days, temperatures have increased significantly in some parts of Europe, records of the heat have been broken, and spring has felt more like the peak of summer.
Météo France, the French National Weather Service, has attributed this phenomenon to a <x0*kupol heat cell”, where warm air remains blocked by a high - pressure atmosphere front, bringing temperatures more than 10 degrees Celsius above what was once considered normal for this period of year.
Climate change caused by man is exacerbating extreme weather phenomena worldwide, promoting deadly extremes that can strike in unusual periods and unexpected places, taking human lives.
Guardian journalists in five European capitals spoke with tourists and local residents about how they experienced this unusual heat wave in May, as well as their concerns about what climate emergencies can bring to the future.
Jim, a visitor from Sydney, talked about the heat wave in Madrid where he went with his wife Marina.
These are not at all the temperatures we expected,” he said. We took clothes for fresher weather because that's what we expected”.
“Vapa is frightening,” said Darcyy, 21, describing the experience of the heat wave within her small apartment on the last floor in Paris.
And sometimes it feels so hot that you're almost afraid to get out, and under the roof it's burning”.
