Sunderland returns to Europe after more than 50 years

Sunderland has secured participation in European football for the first time since 1973, after a 2-1 home victory over Chelsea, leaving “Blute” outside European races.
The team, promoted in Premierligle, strongly launched the crucial match, creating constant pressure on Chelsea, which failed to control the game in the first half.
The first goal came in the 25th minute, when Trai Hume took advantage of a turned ball and scored with a quick kick inside the area.
Chelsea tried to react through Cole Palmer and Enzo, but without success in the first part.
In the early part of the second part, Brian Brobbyy was stopped by goalie Robert Sánchez, but then Sunderland doubled the luckiest advantage after an autogoon of Malo Gusto.
Chelsea returned to the game when Cole Palmer scored after a dry goal that ended a series with no goals, narrowing the score.
However, the situation was complicated for the Londoners when Wesley Fofana was expelled with a red card after a foul to Wilson Isidore.
Sunderland carefully managed the rest of the match, providing a historic victory that gives it 7th place on the table and qualifications in the League of Europe.
For Chelsea, the season ended with great disappointment, as they end up in 10th place and without participation in European competitions.
