Stuttgart: On the bus from Kosovo, customsers find 250kg of meat and a puppy

A matipoo dog, worth about 2,200 euros, was seized. The animal apparently did not have the vaccine for rabies.
At Stuttgart Airport, customs officials have seized more than 250kg of unportable meat products during an inspection of a bus with long trips from Kosovo, broadcast albinfo.ch. As customs officials announced Monday, officials noticed a strong wind coming from several bags in the cargo barn on Sunday morning, strengthening their suspicion of forbidden foods.
In all, the officers confiscated 252.8kg of meat products.
In addition to the sausages, customs officers discovered 700 smuggled cigarettes and other goods imported to the European Union without customs statements, writes ludigsburg24.com. These included four aluminum windows, worth $720, a kitchen worth $400, and a air conditioner worth $640.
The tax evasion procedure has been launched against two bus drivers and a person who collects goods at the bus station on suspicion of smuggling import. Furthermore, bus drivers face a fine from the Eslingen District Office for the illegal import of sausage products.
During the inspection, officers also seized a puppy from the Maltipoo race -- approximately five months, worth about 2,200 euros.
The animal apparently did not have the vaccine required for import rage and was quarantined into an animal shelter. Again, tax evasion procedures were initiated on suspicion of commercial importation.
Last year, customs officials at Stuttgart Airport seized and removed nearly 4.2 tonnes of unportable food products from travellers.
