Economic Oda requires transparency and respect of legal procedures in the Vita milk case

Kosovo's Economic Oda said it is following recent developments related to control and temporary suspension of V milk activity with concern ITA.
OEK estimates that claims raised by the company for overstepping competencies by responsible institutions are serious and, if proven, could pose a violation of business judicial safety and investor confidence.
For this reason, Oda said it requires competent institutions to offer full and transparent clarifications on the legal basis, proportionality and procedures followed.
“OEK emphasizes that food safety and law enforcement are non-negotiable obligations, but inspection checks should be professional, impartial and equal for all economic operators, avoiding any effective treatment. At the same time, local producers have constantly raised concerns about competition from import and have called for strengthening control mechanisms and greater institutional support for domestic production. Actions towards one of the largest local producers create serious concern in the business community, as they can directly affect workers, suppliers, supply chain and local economy as a whole. According to company records, V The ITA collects over 20 million liters of milk annually from more than 1,000 farmers across Kosovo, representing an important link to the agro-food sector”, says OEK.
In this regard, OEK stresses the importance of competent institutions explaining the random circumstances as soon as possible.
OEK calls for:
• Full institutional transparency
• Respecting legal procedures and business rights
• equal and impartial treatment of economic operators
• Sustainable local production policies
“Preservation of food safety standards and support of local production must move in parallel, in the interest of consumers, economy and sustainable domestic development”. /Periscopi/
