Use of Oreshnik missile
Russia, according to its statements, again used the Oresnik-type medium-range rocket in Ukraine, which is particularly frightening to its destructive power. According to Interfax agency, the Defence Ministry in Moscow announced that this was a response to Serbia's “terrorist attacks against Ukraine's” on civilian facilities in Russia.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodyr Zelensky, referring to secret services reports from Ukraine, the US and Europe, had warned of the possible use of this new medium-range Russian hypersonic missile. The rocket has a radius of several thousand miles and can be equipped with a nuclear head. According to Putin, it flies more than ten times the speed of sound.
German government sees “a further escalation”
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz strongly condemned Russian mass attacks. He wrote on the X platform that Germany “will continue to stand firmly on the side of Ukraine”.
