(2 months ago)A court in the Swiss Solothurn canton has recently handled the case of a Swiss national of origin from Kosovo, who is accused of a series of financial criminal acts conducted systematically during the 1920s-2020s. The accused, a 43-year-old, known in local media with the epithetic “Pickaret of the registers”, has benefited a total of approximately 900000 Swiss francs through various fraudulent methods.
The main pillar of his criminal activity was based on the monitoring of the Swiss Trade Record. Once a new company was officially registered, the accused sent to the founders forms that resembled official state bills. The documents included cash sheets of between 550 and 560 francs, which many of the new businesses paid, believing they were mandatory registration taxes.
According to the 37-page indictment, this process was repeated with more than 1600 companies. Money was transferred to various Swiss bank accounts through two companies the accused owned.
In addition to the extinguishable bills, the accused was involved in manipulations in the construction sector. He artificially kept bankrupt companies on foot to generate orders, which he then exceeded to sub contractors with no intention of paying off dues. In another specific case, a private person lost 124,000 francs, which he had paid as a front for the renovation of the house, which was never performed.
The list of criminal acts for which the defendant was convicted includes: Systemic and professional fraud, misappropriation and heavy money laundering, counterfeiting documents, repeated business mismanagement and fraudulent bankruptcy, lack of accounting.
During the hearing, the 43-year-old man who worked earlier as a truck driver expressed regret over his actions, attributing them to a desire for luxury and influence from bad society. He claimed that life in prison has changed him and that he now wants to focus on family and honest work.
The defence argued that the 7-year sentence was <x0monic” compared to the famous cases of financial fraud in Switzerland, where sentences were softer. The lawyer called for lowering the sentence in 3 years, stressing that her client has not used violence and has shown co-operative in the latest phase of the process.
On the other hand, the prosecutor described his activity as “criminality at the rate of”, stressing that the accused has continued to commit criminal acts even while criminal procedure was under way.
The court stressed that the sentence of 7 years and 10 days in prison remains in force, along with financial fines. The positive news for the victims is that the amount of 3155,000 francs seized during the investigation will be used to damage private plaintiffs. The decision is not yet cut and the accused has the right to complain in higher institutions.
