Erdogan says Israeli provocations must end for Middle East peace

Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan said Turkey will continue to strive for stronger regional co-operation, deeper defence capacities and renewed diplomatic commitment both with NATO and with the EU, while also calling for stability in the Middle East.
Speaking to reporters during the return flight from Kazakhstan, Erdogan said that “first, Israeli provocations should be neutralised, and then true peace built”, referring to US-Israel attacks on Iran, reports AA, broadcast Periscope.
If sustainable stability is required in the region, all should put aside short-term calculations. The countries must protect the rights of their citizens, not the interests of actors outside the region”, Erdogan added.
He also said that long-term peace in the Middle East would require the ban on escalating actions and short-term political calculations.
Among other things, the Turkish leader spoke of the upcoming NATO summit, saying Ankara expects important decisions for the future of the alliance and global security architecture.
“We expect important decisions to be made for the future of the alliance and the future form of global security architecture”, Erdogan said.
Erdogan further described Turkey as a “a great opportunity” for the EU, and said the bloc faces a “historic decision” if it will take advantage of this opportunity.
For defence co-operation with the US, he said talks on the F-35 aircraft programme are continuing.
