China sentenced two former defence ministers to death, charged with corruption

China's former defence ministers, Wei Fenghe and Lee Shanghai, have been sentenced to death on corruption charges, Chinese state media reports, according to Reuters.
Under the decision, the death penalty could be turned into life imprisonment if no further violations were committed during the suspension period.
Both officials were expelled from the party Communist In 2024, after being charged with a serious <x0-step of discipline”, a formulation that is often used in China for corruption cases.
Their case is seen as one of the biggest strikes on top military officials in recent years.
