Iran-backed Hezbollah is a militant group and political party at the same time, and controls most of southern Lebanon. It is considered a terrorist organisation by the United States, while the European Union has only put its armed arm on the blacklist.
The Lebanon government is not an active part in the conflict and has pledged to disarm Hezbollah.
Trump said he expects “soon to welcome Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanon President Joseph Aoun to a meeting.
Trump, vice president JD Vance, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with American ambassadors to Israel and Lebanon, were among those who met Thursday with “high-ranking representatives of Israel and Lebanon, according to the American president.

Lebanon's Ambassador to the US, Nada Hamadh Moawawad, and Israel's ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, represented their countries in the talks.
Trump's announcement came even though violence escalated near the Israeli border, with both sides shooting at each other following charges of violations of the 10-day ceasefire that had entered into force on 16 April.
