This agreement stems from the signing of the joint declaration for co-operation between the Republic of Kosovo and the EFTA states at the end of 2018 in Geneva, which in the article four steps of signing free trade agreement with EFTA on 22 January 2024 at the International Conference of Davos in Switzerland. The free trade agreement represents an important instrument of Kosovo's trade policy and contributes to deepening economic integration with markets of European states with high purchasing power, as well as advanced regulatory standards. This agreement includes various areas for which the parties have agreed to deepening co-operation in progressive liberalisation of goods trade through the elimination of customs tariffs for most industrial products, improving market access for specific agricultural products, intellectual property rights, establishing clear rules for the origin of goods, and increasing judicial security for economic operators.
