On this day, we remember the Declaration of Independence. It was the proclamation of a principle that continues to inspire peoples around the world that governments take legitimacy from the governed. The Declaration of Independence reminds us that power is not the property of a government, but the trust given by citizens. When that trust is violated, democratic societies have the right to seek change by democratic means. Happy 250th anniversary of US Independence!
