Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Kujtim Gashi has spoken of the possibility of holding new elections in the country, stressing that they will have high financial costs for the state budget.
He for Online Economy has declared that the PDK has been against the election and has tried to contribute to the president's election, but according to him, this has not been taken seriously by the winning subject of the election.
The first “, what needs to be highlighted even more clearly that the Democratic Party of Kosovo, as you know, has been against the elections. Of course we've tried to make our contribution to the country giving the president. But, the first political subject, which is the prime responsibility to address the issue of electing the president, of course, has taken seriously as it is seen, both by developments and by the constant movements of the meetings. And unfortunately Kosovo, as it is seen, is heading towards new, unnecessary elections, which will certainly cost millions of euros to the Republic of Kosovo budget for no reason, and without any need,”, he said.
Asked whether the country is close to declaring elections, Gashi estimates that the actions so far show clearly that such a thing will happen.
The actions that were done in the first phase before the Constitutional Court act, as well as in the rest, show that Mr. Kurti's goal, as well as the Vetevendosje Movement, is that the country leads to elections. And this is the disaster of all that is happening to Kosovo today, with no interest in choosing the president, and eventually eliminating the elections that are expecting us”, the MP says. According to him, under these circumstances political parties have no choice other than to prepare for elections.
Of course, under these circumstances, political parties have no choice and other options but to prepare for elections. But once again I'm saying, Mr. Kurti, his political subject, has many options and opportunities to give the country a consensual new president, because you know that most political parties have had will and the mood to make the selection”, Gashi said.
Speaking of the PDK's stance in the event of changing the offer on the part of Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Gashi said the party's position remains unchanged.
“We actually, you know our positions from the start so far. We have had the party Steering Council meeting and we think that at this stage, for the Democratic Party of Kosovo this issue is closed, because we have not seen Mr. Kurti's seriousness for choosing the president of Republic”, he said further.
On March 25th, the Constitutional Court overturned Osman's decree issued on March 6th, ruling that if within 34 days, from that date when the court has entered into force, MPs do not elect the president, the Assembly is distributed. According to the decision, after the distribution '%ex transitione '% (included automatically under the Constitution) of the legislature, Kosovo must hold new elections within 45 days. In its act, the Constitution said Kosovo's Assembly is distributed in three cases: if within 60 days the president's appointment date does not form the Government, if 2/3 of all MPs vote on the distribution of the Assembly, and if within 60 days of the start of the election procedure, the president of Kosovo is not elected.
The court took on the specific context of the constitutional circumstances of the constitution on February 11, 2026, estimated that the Assembly did not have sixty days available, in which the period should be completed the procedure for electing President” was said in the Constitutional decision. /Periscope
