The trial at The Hague with war crimes claims against Kosovo Liberation Army leaders is heading towards closure, after three years of judicial process and five years of detention.
The trial that began in 2023, from 3 April to 5 April, focused on the hearing of charged charges Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselini, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi were acquitted.
After a long process of protected witnesses from the prosecution and evidence that The Hague prosecution introduced and used, a number of which were incomes from Serbia, there have been major reactions in Kosovo, even protests.
Long detention and no detention permits, not even permission to attend the funeral.
Neither the ombudsman in this court had approved a complaint by the accused at The Hague.
The defense Witnesses confirmed the opposite of the prosecution in their witnessing for days in the courtroom.
The prosecution's request for 180 years in prison for four sparked reactions as well. Former researcher Nevenka Tromp had stated that in cases where evidence is insufficient, the prosecution often attempts to compensate for this absence with extremely severe demands for penalties.
But in the period when the process is closed and is now in the hands of the judges, the prosecution has continued with the delivery of materials and evidence.
The chairman of the panel, Charles Smith, on the last day of the trial against KLA leaders had stressed that the parties have no right to submit evidence or parachutes after the issue is closed, except in cases when detention is considered.
While the process is towards completion and the first degree decision is expected, it is still unknown whether it will be announced within the first 90 days or the court will take additional time.
