NATO's air and missile defence forces deployed in the eastern Mediterranean have seized an Iranian ballistic missile flying towards Turkish airspace, the Turkish National Defence Ministry said. The rocket was launched by Iran and passed through Iraqi and Syrian airspace before being seized, Türkiye Today reports.
A ministry statement said a ballistic missile launched by Iran was seized and neutralised at the right time. Fractions of the interceptive missile fell into Hatay province's Dortyol Circle after the threat was destroyed in the air.
It was confirmed that the remains belonged to a defence missile, not an entrance missile. There were no reports of casualties or injuries.
According to reports by Shafaq News and the North Press Agency, Iranian ballistic missile was seized over Qamishli in northeast Syria, near the Turkish border.
The ministry said Turkey's determination and ability to ensure the security of the country and its citizens are at the highest level. “We remember that we reserve the right to respond to any hostile act against our country”, the statement added, calling on all sides to refrain from actions that would further escalate conflict in the region.
