PDK: Parliamentary majority developing new political crisis

The Democratic Party of Kosovo expresses its regret that, due to the irresponsability of Mr. The plan to reach a comprehensive or interparty agreement, the country is facing the risk of failing to elect the new president and is heading towards an unnecessary institutional crisis. Presidential selection is not a contest [...]
The president's election is not a contest for the opposition and should not be a political game for the parliamentary majority either.
Numbers in the Kosovo Assembly are clear and the constitutional obligation of the parliamentary majority is to ensure the normal functioning of institutions.
Despite mandates entrusted to citizens, the Vetevendosje Movement has shown inability to govern and irresponsibly, producing crisis, polarisation and political stagnation.
Instead of a responsible and state approach, the parliamentary majority has decided to run a completely party candidate, without co-ordination with other subjects and without the possibility of reaching consensus.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo has acted throughout this process with maturity and political responsibility.
We have participated in consultations, removed red lines to create space for a solution, and were willing to support a consensus candidate that guarantees unity and institutional stability.
As a contribution to stability, after failing to achieve a consensual candidacy, as the biggest political subject of opposition we have asked that a president proposed by the PDK be elected as a balanced mechanism to avoid the concentration of power in the hands of a single party.
Unfortunately, all these options were denied.
The responsibility for the created situation and the consequences it could bring to full light on the parliamentary majority and those with the mandate to govern the country. Kosovo needs political stability, functional institutions and leadership that put the state's interest on party interest.
