“During activities held in the month of December of last year, appreciative excavations have been conducted in only one sector or area of interest, with cases unearthed mortore remains of two individuals, and several bone parts have been found. Due to weather conditions and several operational factors, as well as the large area requiring verification and review of additional information, works at this location were temporarily cut off”, said further in announcing the Government Commission for Missing Persons.
In December of last year, the remains of two persons suspected of missing from the 1998-1999 war were found during three-day excavations at Rahovec's Push. At this location, where teams of The Hague and UNMIK Tribunal had previously done research, allegations were that the remains of eight victims were located.
During 2025, the excavations were conducted at 33 locations and the remains of 22 individuals have been found. The process is expected to continue in 2026.
Of the last war in Kosovo (1998-1999), there are another 15,000 and 577 persons missing.
