Abbas Aracchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf were part of the execution list until Pakistan asked Washington not to take action against them. In response, the US urged Israel to withdraw from the plan, according to a Pakistani official who spoke to Reuters.
Since the beginning of the conflict and after killing several senior Iranian officials, Aracchi has won an increasingly important profile in Iran's politics, writes Skynews.
The Pakistani official said the “Israelites had coordinates and wanted to eliminate them. We told the United States that if they were killed too, there would be no one to talk to. Therefore, the U.S. asked Israel to withdraw”.
Donald Trump has declared that the US is negotiating with Iran for a ceasefire -- a claim Iran denies.
It is reported that the two countries have published separate ceasefire proposals, signalling an effort to ease tensions in the region. /Periscope
