Arben Gashi, from the Democratic League of Kosovo, has reacted after President Vjosa Osmani has prosecuted constitutional amendments to the direct election of President/e, which she said had been drafted by the Constitutional Amendment Commission in 2011.
Gashi has said the elections are the only way until midnight if the country's new president is not elected.
“Ides for constitutional amendments, rejected today after five years in power, are nothing but political maneuvers for immediate sympathy. A tired and unproductive game, he said, among other things.
Gashi has also said the amendments should be passed to the Constitutional Court for the assessment of constitutionality, and then to the double-abundanced 2/3 Assembly, including the votes of non-US communities, which, Gashi added, is a process that lasts months and endangers institutional stability.

Political and constitutional non-satisity in Kosovo
The created situation is the result of a lack of political maturity. It is being accompanied by resentment, negative personal emotions and lack of institutional sensitivity. Even more disturbing is the lack of responsibility to understand the international political moment in which the world is located, but Kosovo.
If by midnight the president/president is not elected, the only remaining route is the extraordinary elections. The constitution is clear and envisions a few moments when the country goes to the polls due to the president's election:
1. Normal constitutional deadline
The president must be elected no sooner than 60 days and no later than 30 days before the mandate ends. Failure to act, so the president's non-election, takes the country directly to the polls within 45 days.
2. Premature end of term
If the mandate ends prematurely, the new president must be elected within 60 days. In case of failure, the country still goes to extraordinary elections.
3. In the event of end of mandate, lack of functional Assembly
In the event of death, dismissal, resignation or other reason, and when the country is in electoral process for up to six months, the president's duty is exercised by the Speaker of the Assembly, until the new Assembly's framework.
Ideas of constitutional amendments, rejected today after five years in power, are nothing more than political maneuvers for immediate sympathy. A tired, unproductive game.
Because:
1. The amendments must be passed to the Constitutional Court for the assessment of constitutionality and then to the double-financed 2/3 Assembly, including the votes of non-communal communities. This is a process that lasts months and jeopardises institutional stability.
2. It is bad practice and contrary to the Venice Commission's recommendations, under which constitutional or electoral rules should not be changed at least 6 months before holding elections.
So the choice is clear:
Either elect the president by midnight or tomorrow the elections are announced that should be held within 45 days.
The institutional blockade and artificial crises are harmful to the Albanians' national interest and Kosovo state interest.
