The amendments were approved by 6 votes in favour. The two deputies of the Democratic Party of Kosovo voted against it.
The vote preceded a clash of power deputies with opposition. The chairman of this commission, Progress Gruda, named the slide towards authoritarianism <x0 minusgutine” for voting these changes. Meanwhile, the Vetvendosje Movement deputies indicated it does not matter that these changes are nearly 15 years in the drawer, but are being proposed on the last day of the deadline to elect the new president.
With these proposed changes, the president of state must be elected directly by the people. They have been in the drawer since 2011, when the Constitutional Court has ruled by bringing down several proposals and adopting others.
It has not been made clear when the session to consider these constitutional changes will be invited. Any constitutional change requires the approval of two-thirds of all Parliament deputies, including two-thirds of all MPs from the communities.
The requirement for constitutional changes by Osmani emerged on the day when the president is entering the last month of the mandate and that the ruling party failed to provide the signatures for another mandate, but proposed Glauk Konjufka. By 24: 00 p.m., the Assembly has deadlines to hold the session to elect the new president. If this is exceeded, as Chief Parliamentary Albulen Haxhiu has said, Kosovo will enter the unmarked “teren”.
