Wars in the Middle East are threatening Dubai's food supply, as the current stock of fresh products can only last about 10 days.
The cause is not lack of money, but disruptions in supply chains due to regional conflicts with Iran.
Stefan Paul, director of the Quahne and Nagel company, in an interview for Swiss SRF television, based the warning only on actual data from his company's supply chains, writes media.
He said that Dubai and most of the Persian Gulf import 8050 percent of food, while about 70 percent of their products go through the Strait of Hormuz.
Problems worsened when this key strait closed to commercial traffic on 28 February. Meanwhile, air transport capacity to the Middle East dropped by 22 percent between February 28th and March 3rd, according to data from the Avean company, published by Reuters.
Luka Jezebel Ali, the main regional centre for importing ready products, which serves 50 million people in the Persian Gulf, was hit by attacks and operations were suspended, partially restarting only on March 5th.
Experts warn that with sea routes closed, destroying air transport and hitting the main port, Dubai risks facing serious shortages of fresh food within just ten days. /Telegraphy/
